SAFE-BONE®
HOW IS IT MADE?
SAFE-BONE® is produced through a selective laser melting process (SLM) using specific grade 5 titanium powders, historically recognized as inert and biocompatible. Each individual titanium mesh is designed to adapt to the patient's anatomical details, based on images created with CAD/CAM and an intra-oral scan provided by the clinician.

WHY USE TITANIUM MESH?

SAFE-BONE® is the most suitable solution in horizontal and vertical bone defects, in combination with a bone substitute.

While any early exposure of a non-resorbable membrane almost always leads to an infection capable of compromising the result of the surgical technique, indeed, several studies show that in case of exposure of the mesh the success of the regeneration is not affected and the regenerated bone volume is maintained.

SAFE-BONE® can be used alone or in combination with SHELTER® FAST or SHELTER® SLOW resorbable membranes.

Compared to pre-shaped titanium meshes, SAFE-BONE® offers many advantages, including speed and ease of application, requiring no further modelling or shaping adjustments.

UBGEN® offers the clinician the opportunity to fully customize the SAFE-BONE® structure, allowing for defining the thickness of the mesh, shape and size of the texture, as well as 3D planning of the placement of openings useful for future allocation of the implants.

ACTI-BONE®
HYALURONIC ACID

Take advantage of the regenerative properties of high molecular weight hyaluronic acid, widely documented in oral surgery.

Hyaluronic acid is one of the main components of connective tissues together with collagen and elastin fibres. It is a polysaccharide naturally produced by the body in order to protect the tissues and keep them hydrated. It is possible to apply ACTI-BONE® directly on the surgical site, or use it in combination with RE-BONE® bone substitute to obtain the so-called "sticky bone" or with SHELTER® FAST or SHELTER® SLOW pericardium membranes to enhance their chemotactic capacity.

ACTI-BONE®, why use it in oral surgery?

Hyaluronic acid is characterized by the ability to retain a very high amount of water.

Anti-inflammatory properties Numerous studies report that hyaluronic acid is effective in minimizing the inflammation in the surgical site, thus facilitating bone regeneration.

Osteogenic and immunomodulatory properties In case of trauma at a local level, hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by the body in order to promote the regeneration of soft tissues.

Angiogenic properties The ability of hyaluronic acid to interact with specific membrane receptors makes it a stimulating factor for the migration and proliferation of endothelial cells.

Fibroblast proliferation High molecular weight hyaluronic acid is recognized for its chemotactic and stimulatory properties toward fibroblasts, involved in the synthesis of new collagen.

Bacteriostatic effect Scientific studies have shown that the clinical application of hyaluronic acid in surgical therapy reduces bacterial contamination of the surgery site and the risk of post-operative infections.

ACTI-BONE®finds its specific application in implant, periodontal, and extraction surgery, and in the treatment of peri-implantitis as a powerful adjuvant capable of regenerating bone tissue and protecting the implant and the implant site.

UBGEN®
A CONSCIOUS CHOICE
THAT YOU CAN DO WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE A BEAUTIFUL SMILE?

There are two good reasons to take care of your teeth and want to smile again:

A functional reason related to the correct chewing and consequent digestion and absorption of nutrients contained in food, posture and body health;

2. A psychological reason, as having healthy teeth improves aesthetics, increases well-being and self-esteem.

WHAT CAUSES BONE LOSS AND WHEN IS RECONSTRUCTION NEEDED?

  • Bone loss can be caused by several factors. A typical example is gum inflammation due to bacterial plaque which, if not removed with proper oral hygiene, affects the bone.

    In other cases, following a tooth extraction, bone thickness could be reduced. Even the use of removable dental prostheses that does not adequately stress the bone tissue, produces its resorption.

  • Other causes of bone loss can be due to trauma or pathologies such as peri-implantitis, with consequences such as: Loss of tooth or implant, Defects in chewing, Inability to insert the dental implant, Instability of the implant, Alteration of phonetics, Decreased self-esteem.
  • Regardless of the causes of bone loss, what matters is to proceed to a timely restoration of bone volume, to ensure a fast functional recovery of chewing and ensure the long-term stability of teeth and implants, as well as improve the aesthetics of teeth and gums. Human bone can regenerate, but in some conditions, such as when a large amount of bone tissue is missing, our body needs help.

What are biomaterials and what are they used for?

  • Biomaterials are inert bone grafts, used for repairing and regenerating bone tissue in the sinus or jaw. They are used in various fields of medicine, but mainly in orthopedic and dentistry. There are two main macro-categories into which biomaterials can be divided: bone substitutes and emembranes capable of protecting the bone graft in the area of intervention.

    Bone grafts, according to their origin, are divided into:

    AUTOLOGOUS Bone material taken from the patient themselves, from the sinus and jaw or from areas outside the oral cavity;

    HOMOLOGOUS Provided by regional and national musculoskeletal tissue banks, identified and authorized by the Ministry of Health;

    HETEROLOGOUS Of animal origin (bovine, equine, porcine) either synthetic, or chemical (called synthetic or non-absorbable.

  • In case of bone deficiency it is advisable to use RE-BONE® bovine graft. RE-BONE® is positioned in the area to be restored allowing the positive outcome of the intervention. In addition, RE-BONE® is resorbable, i.e. it retreats over time, letting the patient's body progressively rebuild its internal tissue.

Can animal biomaterials transmit infections or diseases to humans?

Sometimes the risk is present. However, RE-BONE®, the resorbable biomaterial of bovine origin UBGEN®, increases the level of safety to almost 100% because:

• The animals used are less than 24 months old to rule out the presence of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (mad cow disease).

• It is the only cattle treated at low temperature (thanks to the Thermagen process) that allows to make it almost completely resorbable.

• Il paziente, dopo poco tempo, svilupperà osso proprio e non avrà materiale residuo animale all’interno del proprio corpo;

• The patient, after a short time, will develop their own bone and will have no animal residue material inside their body.

• It comes from a 100% Italian supply chain and is subject to strict process control.

• It has CE certifications from the Italian National Institute of Health.

• It is also registered and certified in non-EU countries.

WHY ARE BIOMATERIALS USED?

Despite the characteristic hardness and strength, bone is not a static tissue, but is constantly changing and repaired. This process is called bone remodeling. Every year about 10% of our overall bone mass is renewed. The bone substitute (biomaterial), keeping the bone volume unchanged and ensuring the stability of the implant screws, promotes the process of regeneration and healing of the surgical wound.

How does bone reconstruction contribute to implant stabilization?

Following the tooth extraction, near the extractive alveolus, both bone and gum tend to a progressive and natural reduction of their volume. In order to guarantee stability to the implants, it is good to fill the extraction cavities with a biomaterial that will help to maintain the bone volume.

WHAT ARE THE INDICATIONS TO FOLLOW AFTER SURGERY?

It is necessary to adopt appropriate post-operative behaviors to reduce recovery times and minimize the onset of any complications. On the opposite page we list the five main post-operative indications to be adopted after bone regeneration surgery. In case of pain or any doubt, always consult your dentist.

• Treat any swelling with cold compresses.

• In case of pain, ask your dentist, if you have not already done so, for an adequate pain reliever.

• For the first few weeks, during daily oral hygiene procedures, avoid the operated area, use an antibacterial mouthwash and, later, in the area surrounding the wound use only a toothbrush with soft bristles.

• Avoid coffee, alcohol and cigarettes for 2-3 days after surgery.

This warning reduces the risk of post-operative bleeding and improves wound healing (smoking and insufficient oral hygiene can have a significant negative impact on the outcome of therapy).

• Even if the recovery proceeds smoothly, respect the schedule of check-ups set by your dentist.
